Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada

NSERC is a Canadian federal agency established on 1 May 1978 under the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Act, taking over university research funding previously managed by the National Research Council of Canada. Alongside the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), NSERC is one of Canada's three major federal research funding agencies, investing over $1 billion annually in natural sciences and engineering research. It provides scholarships, fellowships, and hands-on research training to more than 30,000 post-secondary students and postdoctoral fellows each year, alongside grants supporting over 11,000 university professors and partnerships between universities, colleges, businesses, and not-for-profits.
