This project aims to explore the formative effects of troubles with language production by establishing how people self-repair them in conversation. By studying how people dynamically adjust language production, this project will discover more about how communication drives features of language.
The successful candidate for this scholarship will use Conversation Analysis to explore dimensions of conversational self-repair in English and in at least one other language.

The value of this stipend scholarship is $39,700 per annum (full time, indexed) for three years.

Eligibility Criteria
This scholarship is available to eligible candidates to undertake a direct entry three-year PhD program.
You are encouraged to apply if you have:
- a background in linguistics, conversation analysis or a cognate field
- competence in one or more Australian Aboriginal language, tactile Auslan, Japanese, Finnish, Norwegian or Italian.
We would also welcome candidates with a working knowledge of conditions that impact communication, such as aphasia or fluency disorders (eg stuttering).
