The grant may be awarded to an artist up to three times in their lifetime. Each application is carefully evaluated, and grants are awarded based on the quality of the submission, including the portfolio of artworks.

How to Apply
Applications are submitted through the Foundation's online application site only — applications by email or physical mail are not accepted. Before accessing the application, applicants must complete an Eligibility Questionnaire. Applications may be submitted in English or French; required materials not originally in these languages (e.g., proof of ID or address) must include an official translation alongside the original.
The application consists of seven mandatory tasks:
- Personal information and professional history
- Description of grant request
- Artist statement
- Artistic proposal
- Budget
- Portfolio of six works and an installation view of one work in the portfolio
- A letter of recommendation submitted directly by your referee through the application site
There are four application cycles per year with fixed open/close dates and earliest grant period start dates. Applicants should prepare well in advance of the closing date, since grants are awarded only to the strongest applications

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be between 18–41 years old at the time of submitting a first grant application (former grant recipients may apply beyond age 41 if they meet all other criteria)
- Must be a student or emerging artist in the process of launching their career or developing their practice, NOT intended for amateur artists or mature, established artists
- Must apply to develop work as an artist through studio practice, production of a new body of work, exhibition, and/or participation in a residency to which accepted (proof of acceptance required), OR
- Must apply to study art in a fine arts or studio arts program where accepted or currently enrolled at a university, college, studio/atelier, or apprenticeship program (proof of acceptance/enrollment required)
- Works must be produced by hand using traditional tools and techniques, any work using photography or digital imagery as primary medium (including photo-based prints or image transfers), or produced using computer software or robotics (including 3D printing), is NOT eligible
- Ineligible art forms: abstract or non-representational art, installation art, public art, murals, textile art, illustration, graphic design, photography, animation, video art, film, performance art, digital art, crafts, decorative arts
- Must apply solely on your own behalf, not as part of a collective, group, or organization
- Must apply in advance of the start of your project or school term, grant funds may only be used for future expenses
- Eligible work must have been produced within the last two years
